Podcast #8

It's been a long time coming but you'll be pleased to hear that our eighth podcast is finally available for download. The fun begins with Animal Collective's epic Fireworks, which is followed by further four prime cuts from some of the autumn's finest indie rock releases. After that, we turn our attention to one of favourite record labels, Brighton's Fat Cat, for a special label feature. Watch out for that Songs of Green Pheasant tune in particular.

Podcast #7

In typical No Ripcord fashion, our seventh podcast is ever so slightly later than planned. Hopefully the quality of the music will make amends, though, as I think it's one of our best yet. And, yes, I know I always say that but this month I mean it just that little bit more.

We've got our usual mix of established indie acts (Spoon, Caribou, Figurines) and up and coming talent (Pale Young Gentlemen, Remote Islands, Virgin Passages) and if you can't find something here to get very excited about... well, I probably wouldn't advise subscribing to our RSS feed.

Podcast #6

I hope everyone enjoyed Tara's podcast last month. Her diverse range of selections certainly helped me to discover a few worthy new bands - Ladyhawk in particular are going down very well over here - and I can only hope that my compilation will offer you similar rewards this month.

The more observant ones among you will notice that I've gone a bit Adam Franklin crazy on this podcast. The former Swervedriver man features twice here, both with The Setting Suns (his collaboration with Interpol's Sam Fogarino) and as a solo artist. I nearly threw in an old Swervedriver classic for good measure but in the end there was just too much other stuff I wanted to include so I had to cut it.

New artists to watch out for this month are Black Moth Super Rainbow, Bang Gang and Muleskinner Jones. If you like what you hear please visit their websites (links available on the No Ripcord website) and investigate them further. You won't be disappointed.

Podcast #5

Those who found themselves tiring of my monosyllabic Northern drone but enjoying the tunes nonetheless will find plenty to be excited about in this month's podcast as our favourite Canadian critic Tara Campbell has kindly taken the presenter's mic off my hands.

While the focus remains on new music, Tara has utilised her local knowledge to showcase a number of Canada's best up and coming artists, many of whom were new to me. In fact, since receiving her tracklist, I've spent a fair amount of time investigating some of these names further. Spend some time with this podcast and I guarantee you'll be doing the same.

Podcast #4

You're in for another treat this month as we've compiled ten of our current favourites to create our longest, and arguably best, podcast to date.

While new bands like A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Rumskib, and the hotly tipped Twilight Sad dominate, we've managed to make some deserved room for indie stalwarts such as Wilco and Low. And for those who like their guitars a little noisier, we've included the title track from Jesu's awesome Conqueror album. We're confident that there's something for everyone here and hope that you all enjoy listening to this podcast as much as we enjoyed compiling it.

Podcast #3

The quality of February and March's new releases is such that this podcast could easily have been three or four times longer. Seriously, it was a real headache narrowing down our selection to just nine tracks and I'm still kicking myself for omitting the enormous title track from Jesu's excellent new album Conqueror. But, a few minor sacrifices aside, I'm confident that this is our most cohesive set of tracks to date.

New bands such as Manchester's excellent Circus Animals Desertion rub shoulders with old favourites like the resurgent Dinosaur Jr, and the wistful indie-pop of Loney, Dear thrives alongside the glitchy electronica of Crystal Castles and the throbbing electro punk of Shout Out Out Out Out.

As ever, we hope you enjoy the podcast. If you have any feedback (or ideas for future podcasts) don't hesitate to get in touch at the usual address (email at no ripcord dot com)

Podcast #2

2007 is certainly living up to our expectations so far. We're not even out of January yet and already there have been some rather inspirational releases. Encouragingly, a brief glance at the release schedule suggests that the coming months will equally fruitful. But let's not look too far ahead just yet.

We've done our very best to compile some of our early favourites of 2007 in this, our second podcast. While some tracks come from the big releases and will be familiar to most of you, others come from more low key affairs, and one is even an unreleased demo. There are even a few older tracks thrown in for good measure.

We would like to give a special thanks to Aberdeen band Hookers Green No.1 for allowing us to use a sample from "Bloody Great Big Fucking Party" as our intro music. If you like what you hear, why not visit their MySpace page?
